Why this forest matters
One of three populations left.
The reserve holds one of the three last known populations of Umtiza trees, and one of only four populations of a rare Veniliodes cycad-eating moth. It is not a scenic walk with some trees in it — the trees are the reason for the walk.
Accompanied by a guide you will walk down to a lush riverbed which you will cross to access the pristine forest, then follow a narrow natural forest path while your guide explains the trees and plants you pass and their traditional uses.
